It marks a record in Spanish audiovisual production.
Following the presentation of Secuoya’s new projects at Iberseries & Platino Industria, Raúl Berdonés, CEO of Secuoya, revealed in a conversation with Ríchard Izarra, editor-in-chief of PRODU, that Zorro has become the most expensive production ever made in Spain, with a budget exceeding US$40 million. “We believe in ourselves, we’ve proven we can do it, and we’ll keep moving in that direction,” he said with confidence.
Berdonés announced that the first episode of the series will officially premiere on Sunday, October 15, at 6 p.m. local time in France during Mipcom.
He emphasized that Zorro, which consists of 10 episodes, represents a win-win for all parties involved: “It’s a win-win for us as a production company, for clients, and for platforms.” The series has already been acquired by Amazon Studios for distribution in Latin America, the United States, and Spain.
During the event, Secuoya Studios Stories also announced new co-production alliances. In partnership with Turkish production company Ay Yapim, they will develop three titles, starting with Brave and Beautiful. Additionally, in collaboration with Colombian company CMO, they will produce the historical series Manuela, focused on the life of Manuelita Sáenz, a key figure in Latin America’s independence.
Berdonés highlighted that passion is a key factor in the success of their productions: “I always say it—things must be done with passion. We have a great team, people who are committed to the stories we tell, and that’s what allows us to achieve our goals.”
He concluded by sharing his vision for regional collaboration across Ibero-America: “If we truly come together, we can create content on par with Hollywood. It’s not about competing, it’s about rising to the occasion. Together, with 600 million Spanish speakers, we can tell great stories.” He added that Secuoya is open to working with producers and distributors from across the region: “Our door is open to any partner who wants to bring value.”
