- Indra has climbed more than 100 places in the ranking compiled by Fortune and Statista compared with 2025
- The company is the top-ranked of the only three Spanish firms included in the ranking of Europe’s most innovative companies
Indra Group is the most innovative Spanish company according to the ranking of the 100 most innovative companies in Europe, as per the “Europe’s Most Innovative Companies 2026” ranking compiled by “Fortune” magazine and Statista.
The defence and advanced technologies company has climbed more than 100 places compared to last year and shares a place in this ranking with two other Spanish firms: the energy company Iberdrola and the oil company Repsol.
Leaders in transformation and technological progress
This is the second year that the publication has compiled the list of Europe’s most innovative companies, in collaboration with Statista and after evaluating around 300 companies from 18 countries and 21 different sectors, providing an accurate reflection of “the organisations that are leading the continent’s transformation and technological progress”.
For the Indra Group, this recognition consolidates and reinforces its position as a leading global company in defence, aerospace and advanced technologies.
The company states that “innovation is a fundamental pillar of our strategy; that is why we invest consistently in R&D&I to incorporate and develop emerging technologies, both internally and through various innovation programmes at national and European level. In recent years alone, we have participated in more than 300 innovation projects”.
Commitment to R&D&I
In recent years, Indra Group has significantly strengthened its commitment to innovation through the investment in R&D&I set out in its Strategic Plan, totalling over 3,000 million euros up to 2030, which by 2025 has resulted in an innovation effort (R&D/sales) of 8.7 per cent. It has also introduced a new organisational structure centred on the office of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer), which is entirely dedicated to technology development and is supported by an open ecosystem comprising universities, research centres and highly innovative small businesses across Europe.
It has established a new Centre for Technological Innovation, designed to ensure technological advancement across all areas of the Indra Group in a cross-functional manner. This centre includes state-of-the-art research and development laboratories designed to facilitate collaborative development from the early stages of technologies such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, new secure communications systems, advanced electronics – with a particular focus on power electronics, SiP and SoC – and next-generation sensors, amongst other technologies.
These are emerging and disruptive technologies, with a significant impact and currently in the early stages of adoption, which help to drive advanced operational concepts and accelerate the digital evolution of strategic sectors.
“We are working to consolidate Indra’s position as a technology and product company, with a solid foundation in innovation, talent and industrial capabilities,” Indra explains. “If Europe aspires to genuine technological sovereignty, we must develop our own critical technologies here. We cannot rely on capabilities that do not currently exist in either Spain or Europe,” they point out.
Companies from all sectors
The Fortune list features companies from various fields, a ranking that “paints a picture of a continent defined by deep industrial expertise, renewed ambition and an ability to reinvent itself” and which showcases a dynamic and competitive region “brimming with opportunities”, forming the bedrock of European society, from financial services to the industrial, commercial and technology sectors.
Thus, among the featured companies are corporations that are revolutionising every sector, from defence to healthcare and mobility. There are also companies that are transforming the way we shop, dress and manufacture. Many of these companies are working to promote the development of AI in Europe.
In the case of AI, the Indra Group has focused its efforts on IndraMind, the group’s initiative for sovereign and cyber-resilient AI for critical environments, with dual military and civilian applications, and with high potential for growth and scalability. This is an example of how a sustained commitment to innovation translates into tangible technological capabilities and high-impact solutions for society and industry.
