Ence has presented its strategy for the next five years, focused on three main areas: pulp, renewable energy, and the forestry business. In the pulp sector, the company will launch the “Navia Excelente” plan, with an investment of €105 million in its Navia plant (Asturias).
This plan includes the promotion of differentiated products, diversification into Fluff pulp—specialized for absorbent hygiene products—and an innovative decarbonization project that will reduce the environmental footprint. Specifically, an annual reduction of 50,000 tons of CO₂ is expected starting in 2024, thanks to the valorization of lignin as a biofuel.
Meanwhile, Ence continues the legal defense of the extension of its biofactory concession in Pontevedra, whose closure was ordered by recent rulings from the National Court. One of these rulings is being appealed before the Supreme Court, which will decide soon. Ence had already provisioned €200 million in 2021 in anticipation of a possible closure.
In the renewable energy business, Ence’s subsidiary is committed to advancing technologies for decarbonization, including photovoltaics, biomass, energy management, storage, biofuels, and biogas. Recently, this division was renamed Magnon Green Energy and appointed Marc Gómez as its new CEO, highlighting the importance of this area for its future.
