Beka Finance, in partnership with German fintech Debitos, will launch a new digital platform in Spain by the end of the year that will allow banks and other financial entities to auction portfolios of non-performing loans quickly and transparently. The initiative mirrors a model already operating successfully in eight European countries and aims to streamline a process traditionally known for being slow and accessible to only a few investors.
The digital tool will enable sellers — including banks, consultancies, and funds — to list their debt portfolios online, setting a minimum price. From there, specialized investors such as hedge funds, alternative funds, and family offices can place bids in a competitive environment, much like how eBay works.
“Sellers will be able to list their loans within hours and reach up to 530 investors across Europe, significantly increasing the chances of getting a better price,” explains Lorenzo Guidi, senior advisor at Debitos. The fintech charges a fee only if the transaction is successfully completed.
Over its five years of operations, Debitos has handled more than 70 deals, with a total volume exceeding €5 billion. Its entry into the Spanish market comes at a time when banks still hold large volumes of distressed assets. According to Beka Finance CEO Carlos Stilianopoulos, Spain is the second European country with the highest concentration of non-performing loans, making this a significant opportunity for a new divestment channel.
Beka Finance is currently conducting a roadshow with various financial institutions. The firm expects strong interest in the platform, which enables the sale of both large mortgage portfolios and smaller consumer credit packages.
In the long term, the alliance’s goal is to create the first pan-European secondary market for non-performing loans, paving the way for greater efficiency and transparency in this segment of the financial system.
